About Us

Hi Plains Dairy is a small-acreage, Grade A licensed dairy farm with 120 goats and 21 cows located in Calhan, Colorado, just a short drive from Colorado Springs. Our farming philosophy and practices are based on the true European farmstead ideal - that the quality of food and care that goes into the animal is directly proportionate to the quality of milk that comes out. Our animals are treated humanely. They are like our pets, all have names. They have 24-7 access to pasture that is rich in diverse plants for livestock grazing. They also have constant access to fresh water. We're happy to announce that we'll soon be moving to Certified Organic pastureland!

Our animals are not given antibiotics or hormones to increase milk production and they are given adequate rest from milking before birthing. If necessary, when an animal does get sick it will be treated, but will also be pulled off the milk line.

Our Farm

The operation was started in May of 2008 with 4 goats which provided high quality raw goat milk to our customers. We soon added Jersey cows to the dairy and provided raw cow milk, as well. Our customer base has grown considerably and we are excited to expand our product line to include quality flavored yogurt cheese, flavored cheese curds, and chevre, all hand made in small batches. We are currently aging raw cheeses and will add them to our product line in the near future!
